Known for his work in body painting and photography, South Bay body paint artist, Paul Roustan is set for another solo show just in time for Halloween. Roustan says, “My work is often characterized as costuming, so it makes sense to make this Hermosa Beach’s BIGGEST Halloween Bash!”
Early 2018, Roustan produced a highly successful 80s Solo Show. Patrons were greeted by the Back to the Future DeLorean parked in front of Resin Gallery. Inside the space, alongside the large format prints and video, viewers found a larger than life Barbie Doll, live painted models from TRON, a TV Wall, and a xerox machine spitting out free pieces of take home art. All the while, local band, The Hollow Legs, jammed out to 80s cover tunes.
Roustan’s events are never a small production, “I like to incorporate installations alongside the artwork so that it’s more an experience than a traditional gallery show. There will be several selfie opportunities in creative environments with four LIVE painted models of varying themes. Cameras are very welcome. “This will be like the grand Halloween events I went to as a kid, dark, fun, and memorable!”
The Oct. 26th Saturday before Halloween invites guests to come dressed for a costume contest offering a chance to win a unique photographic artwork by the accomplished artist. There will be all sorts of goodies, libations (sponsored by Nicaragua Craft Beer Co.), and of course CANDY! But, there are also a few extra surprises in store.
DJ Thes One, from the acclaimed hip hop duo People Under the Stairs, will be spinning an all vinyl 45 set LIVE. “His music helped inspire my 80s show, and I’m beyond grateful that he will be a part of this one. I relate to PUTS on a basic creative philosophical level. It’s amazing how his masterful beats and lyrics perfectly reflect my taste and hustle.”
Huge thanks to Studio 637, the finest visual and audio studio in Hermosa Beach for capturing the evening!
